A recently donated mobile home provided CHFD members with hours of hands on training. The trailer was moved to the East Greenbush Transfer Station on Ridge Rd. where it was prepared for training. Dept. Officers and Safety staff removed any hazards that might present, while adding props of their own for the upcoming drills. Walls in the burn area were reinforced with fire resistant sheetrock to ensure minimal damage to the structure. During week 1 members conducted primary and secondary searches and also trained in victim rescue. In week 2 crews were given a chance to experience live fire training and sharpen their skills in initial fire attack, ventilation and overhaul. Week 3 was the highly anticipated final burn where firefighters were tasked with exposure protection and monitoring of the fire condition. In all approximately 40 members participated in 11 hours of hands on training.
