 <![CDATA[&nbsp;At the Annual Installation of Officersâ Dinner held this past month several members of the&nbsp;Clinton Heights Fire Department were given special recognition for their willingness to deploy to Long&nbsp;Island during Hurricane Sandy. &nbsp;In his presentation Chief Randy Cherubino stated, âOn four different&nbsp;occasions firefighters from our department left family and their familiar home district to ride to&nbsp;Westport, Long Island and other points of need to assist our neighbors so devastated by the hurricaneâs&nbsp;wrath. &nbsp;In recognition for their efforts the Firefighter of the Year Award is collectively presented to these&nbsp;brave and selfless members.â &nbsp;Also of special note that evening, the John Mitchell Sr. Award given&nbsp;annually to a firefighter who goes âabove and beyondâ was presented to Lieutenant Mike Hart.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sworn in to hold the office of Chief by Chief Jay Corcoran of the Rensselaer Fire Department&nbsp;were District Chief Randy Cherubino, 1st Assistant Chief Seth Tracy and 2nd Assistant Chief Bill OâConnor. &nbsp;&nbsp;Line Officers for the coming year were sworn in by T.J. Strack, Assistant Chief of the Saranac Fire&nbsp;Department: Bruen Hose Station 1, Captain Steve Bestler, Lieutenant Truck 8 Bob Reiners and&nbsp;Lieutenant Rescue 8 Joe Faranda. &nbsp;For Community Hose Station II the line officers for the coming year&nbsp;are Captain Chris Racine, Station Lieutenant Mike Hart, Lieutenant Squad 8 Tom Penk, Lieutenant Engine&nbsp;8-5 Chad Farrell, Lieutenant Engine 8-7 Pat Knapeck and Special Operations Division Lieutenant Kris&nbsp;Renadette. &nbsp;&nbsp;Company Officers for the 2013 year for Bruen Hose: President Tony Hazzard, Vice President Bill&nbsp;OâConnor, Secretary Dave Jordan, Treasurer Tom Burns and Members Frank Fiato, Rich Hendrick and&nbsp;Steve Bestler. &nbsp;For the Community Hose Fire Company President Ron Stark, Vice President Jason&nbsp;Deyette, Secretary Paul Bednarczyk, Treasurer Ed Pratt, Financial Secretary John Farrell and Sergeant at&nbsp;Arms T.J.  <![CDATA[&nbsp;&nbsp;In an effort to sharpen the skills of the volunteer firefighters of the Clinton Heights Fire Department, Lieutenant Mike Ciampo of 45 Truck New York City Fire Department located in the Bronx and Firefighter Mike Leo of Squad 41, Bronx were on hand the weekend of March 30-31st&nbsp;to offer class and hands-on experience in truck company operations.&nbsp; Firefighters from Rensselaer, Defreestville, Halfmoon and Wynantskill were invited to join the 35 volunteers from Clinton Heights for this exercise.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Lieutenant Ciampo offered âtips, tricks and techniquesâ in window ladder entry as well as rotation and rescue.&nbsp; There was extensive training in forcible entry as a firefighter is faced with inward/outward opening doors.&nbsp; Taught and reviewed as well was roof ventilation with an assortment of saws and tools available to truck company personnel.&nbsp; Actual buildings recently donated to the fire department made the experience that much more realistic.&nbsp; Cutting drills were also offered.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Firefighter Leo addressed the techniques of quick interior searches by ladder entry, taking glass, taking control of a room and conducting the primary search.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In all cases both trainers emphasized the importance of communication, team work and accountability. Lieutenant Ciampo has been on the job for 27 years, having served with Rescue 3 in Washington, D.  <![CDATA[&nbsp;The Clinton Heights Fire Department (CHFD) is pleased to acknowledge the recent promotion of member Vince Memole to Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve.&nbsp; LTC Memoleâs current assignment is as Asst Chief of Staff (G-5) Chief of Plans for the 78thTraining Division at Fort Dix, New Jersey. &nbsp;Also, fire department member Paul Bednarczyk was promoted to Major in the Air Force Reserve.&nbsp; He currently is with the 439th&nbsp;Civil Engineering Squadron (CES) at Westover Air Reserve Base in Massachusetts.&nbsp; Memole who has been deployed three times has been with Clinton Heights Fire for 26 years; Bednarczyk having been deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 has been a member of Clinton Heights for 10 years.CHFD has many members who have proudly served in the Armed Forces of the United States: Tony Rossello, Sr., Ted Mulberry, Bob Stark Sr., Bob Phelan, Ed Pratt, Current Chief Randy Cherubino, 2nd&nbsp;Asst Chief Bill OâConnor, Tom Penk, Adam Kraus, Brian Hill, Steve Frost, Paul Van Wormer and Sean Racine.&nbsp; Fire Fighter John Schumaker will join the United States Army on August 28th.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Also in line for recognition recently is department member Matt Boniface who graduated from Suffolk University on May 5th.&nbsp; Graduating Cum Laude, Matt was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems and International Business.&nbsp;...]]>

 <![CDATA[A swift-moving second alarm in the City of Rensselaer brought mutual aid on a clear January afternoon.  The box, which was first noticed by an off-duty City of Rensselaer Fire Department was quickly consuming 40 Partition Street.  Upon request, Engine Co 8-5, Truck Co 8, Rescue Co 8, and the Buggy responded to support suppression operations.  Teaming up with CPT Brookings a a crew from Rensselaer, Chief Cherubino took a his crew through the first floor, eventually making it to the second floor.  <![CDATA[A hot and humid Sunday, a day of rest, turned quickly on July 01, 2012, at approxiamtely 16:30 when Rensselaer City Fire Department was alerted to a building fire located off Aiken Avenue in the City's south-end.  Responding, the officer aboard Rensselaer's first due Engine transmitted a second alarm, as did Assistant Chief Corcoran [29C3].  Responding on the second alarm were Engine Company 8-5, Rescue Company 8, and Squad 8 [Acting T8] .  Additionally, 8C1, 8C2, and 8C3 ran the box putting an additional eighteen members on the alarm.  Crews from Engine Co 8-5 advanced two attack lines to the rear of the fire building where a total of three buildings were involved.  Once in position and keeping the fire from advancing to additional buildings a crew from Rensselaer Ladder 1, Rensselaer Eng Co 2, and CHFD Rescue Co 8 entered the original fire building with two lines an stop the inferno in its tracks.  Crews from CHFD and RFD continues their aggressive push limiting the fire damage, while additional mutual aid crews arrived to support fire operations.  In all, five buildings were damaged, all capable of being rehab'ed and reoccupied in the future, thanks to sound aggressive tactics by Rensselaer Fire commanders.

 	<title>1st Due All-Hands</title>

 <![CDATA[Two occupants escaped likely injury when their house erupted in flames this weekend.  Crews were alerted to respond to 17 Chestnut Court in the Hillview section of the Town at 17:47 after a homeowner notices flames and smoke on a bedroom.   A uniform patrol in the area also noticed the fire and request the Fire Department.  Upon arrival, Assistant Chief for Operation Seth Tracy transmitted the All-Hands and requested an additional Engine and Truck Company to support operations.  Truck Co 8 was off duty with a hydraulic leak. Running in their place was a fully staffed Truck 11.  Engine Co 8-5 arrived and aggressively advanced an 1 3/4 attack line to the fire floor and quickly snuff this rapidly advancing blaze.  While working inside, Truck 11 jakes placed a perfect ventilation cut directly above the fire, essentially putting this fire out.  Due to the ambient temperature, well into the 90's, commanders requested an additional four Engines and a Rehab Unit from West Sand Lake.  These Engines, from Rensselaer, East Greenbush, DeFreestville, and Best Luther replaced the first due companies that were all but spent.

On April 03, 2012, at 0800, an Engine Company from CHFD responded to the Castleton [Sta 6] Fire Station for a cover assignment.&nbsp;Lt. Steve Bestler, running as an Engine Company Officer commanded a crew of eight.&nbsp;Enroute to the transfer the unit was requested to the scene of a 3-3-3 in South Schodack [Sta 34] Fire Department's first due.&nbsp;Crews arrived at the scene to support tanker operations in a rapidly advancing building fire in a ten-thousand square foot commercial occupancy that manufactures fire starter bricks.&nbsp;Quick and decisive decisions by the Incident Commander made for the most positive outcome of a terrible situation.&nbsp;Units operating at the scene or on transfers included Averil Park [Sta 1], Best Luther [Sta 3], Castleton [Sta 6], CHFD [Sta 8], East Greenbush [Sta 11], Hoages Corners [Sta 15], Nassau [Sta 22], Rensselaer [Sta 29], Schodack Landing [Sta 31], Schodack Valley [Sta 32], South Schodack [Sta 34], West Sand Lake [Sta 43], and units from Niverville, Chatham, Stockport, Valatie, and North Chatham.&nbsp;&nbsp;...]]>
